Rani Mukherjee wanted to become a lawyer or an interior designer before joining the acting profession, but due to the poor financial condition of the house, she had to join the acting profession. Rani Mukherjee made her acting debut with the Bengali film ‘Biyer Phool’ (1996) directed by her father Ram Mukherjee. After this, she made her Bollywood debut with the Hindi film ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’. In this film, Rani was seen with Amjad Khan’s son Shadab Khan.

She was also finalized for the film, but Shahrukh wanted Aishwarya to work in the film. He felt that Aishwarya would fit the role of a fashion designer and a girl running a boutique.
The film was started with Aishwarya without informing Rani. One song and one or two scenes were also shot. During the shooting, Salman quarreled with Shahrukh and also hit Aishwarya. After that Aishwarya was dropped and Rani was taken. Rani and her mother had said that we knew that whatever is in our destiny, no one can take it away.
