A fatal accident took place in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Thursday afternoon.
A fireworks factory not far from Sivakasi experienced an explosion. The blast was so powerful that eight people, including five women, died on the spot and many were injured.
Police and firemen reached the spot and engaged in rescue operations.
Fireworks factory is currently on fire. The injured have been taken to the hospital and are being treated.
A firecracker factory is being run in a deserted place in Sivakasi of Virudhunagar district.
Like everyday, on Thursday too, the factory is making firecrackers. Workers are engaged in work. Meanwhile, the fireworks kept in the factory exploded.

Screams were heard inside the factory immediately after the explosion. Immediately after the accident, those standing outside the factory informed the police.
On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and informed the fire brigade.
Firefighters rushed to the spot as soon as the fire broke out in the factory.
Firefighters started rescue operations inside the RP factory to put out the fire.
So far the firemen have recovered eight bodies out of which five are women and three are men.
Others are taking the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, Collector Jayaselan and SP of Virudhunagar district also reached the spot.

Collector Jayaselan, SP reviewed the relief measures. Collector Jayaselan said that there was an explosion in the firecracker factory and a total of 8 people died.
Eight of the dead were women. A few others were injured and are being treated in the hospital.
Collector Jayaselan said that they are investigating how the explosion took place in the fireworks factory.
Right now all our focus is on putting out the fire in the factory. Police and firemen are engaged in rescue operations.
