The film introduces a psychopathic villain self-styled as Babbar Sher, a virtuous supercop who extols positivity, and his cherubic daughter. While the premise holds potential, it fails to offer anything groundbreaking. Director Kalees, adapting Atlee’s original creation, recycles the blueprint of Theri but misses the essence that made it a hit, resulting in a stale and uninspired offering.

The cast’s efforts to salvage the narrative yield limited success. Rajpal Yadav’s portrayal of a stern policeman alongside the protagonist is a notable departure from his comedic forte, but even his nuanced performance cannot inject life into a lackluster storyline. Keerthy Suresh, debuting in Bollywood as the hero’s love interest, is relegated to an archetypal role, her character submerged in cliched depictions of romance and sacrifice.

Action Without Depth

The film’s action sequences, pivotal in such a genre, are marred by anachronistic choreography and lackluster execution. The protagonist, Deputy Commissioner of Police Satya Verma, transitions between his dual identities of an undercover bakery owner and a formidable enforcer of justice. Yet, the film’s insistence on predictable twists and uninspired conflicts drains these moments of their intended gravitas.

The antagonist, portrayed by Jackie Shroff as a corrupt politician and ruthless trafficker, exhibits a caricatured malevolence that borders on the monotonous. The character’s single-minded pursuit of dominance feels overplayed, offering no substantial depth to the hero-villain dynamic.

Lost Opportunities

The film’s sluggish pacing is accentuated by overlong flashbacks and redundant subplots, diluting its impact further. Musical interludes, rather than enhancing the story, disrupt its flow, stretching an already unwieldy runtime. The thematic focus on fatherhood, a potentially compelling angle, is overshadowed by regressive portrayals of women and a shallow exploration of its familial aspects.

The closing moments of Baby John hint at the creation of a shared universe featuring undercover operatives, a concept that might intrigue some fans. However, this late revelation does little to redeem a film that spends much of its runtime stumbling through unoriginal territory.

Verdict

Despite its attempts to deliver a blend of adrenaline-fueled action and emotional resonance, Baby John falters due to its derivative narrative, uneven performances, and lack of innovation. What should have been a celebration of bold storytelling ends up as a missed opportunity, offering little to satisfy aficionados of the genre or admirers of the original.

The plot unfolds the trials of a former police officer who needs to keep his daughter safe from the danger of his troubled past. The story is both the debut of Keerthy Suresh in Bollywood and a fine return to action for veteran actor Jackie Shroff, who plays the villain. Additionally, Salman Khan’s electrifying cameo further elevates the film’s star power.

According to a source, “the purpose of attaching the teaser to both the Diwali releases, Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, is to grab audience attention. “With a Christmas release lined up, the campaign will kick off with an action-packed teaser during Diwali.” They also shared, “Post-production is in full swing, and the team is excited to entertain audiences at the year’s end, positioning Baby John as a large-scale mass entertainer right from the get-go.” 

On the work front, Varun Dhawan has a slew of exciting projects in the pipeline, including No Entry 2, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, and Bhediya 2. He is also starring in the spy series Citadel: Honey Bunny opposite Samantha Ruth Prabhu, set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on November 7, 2024.

Recently, Varun joined the cast of Border 2, a war film that has fans buzzing. Expressing his excitement on Instagram, Varun shared, “Being a part of Border 2 produced by JP sir and Bhushan Kumar is a monumental moment in my career. And working alongside my hero, Sunny Paaji, makes it even more special.”

Anjini Dhawan, the niece of Bollywood star Varun Dhawan, is all set to make her big-screen debut with Binny and Family. The Dhawan family has shown their love and support for her upcoming film, but in a recent interview, Anjini shared an interesting revelation — despite her family’s strong connections in the film industry, she never approached her uncle, filmmaker David Dhawan, to launch her career. 

In a recent interview , Anjini spoke candidly about her journey. Despite growing up in a film family, she admitted that she didn’t have the courage to ask her uncle for help in securing her Bollywood debut. “The mantra of our family is that you achieve what you genuinely deserve,” Anjini added.. You’ll have everyone’s blessings, love, and support once you accomplish it. With me, that is precisely what has transpired.”

She went on to point out that even Varun Dhawan, who is a major Bollywood star, wasn’t launched by his father, David Dhawan. Anjini emphasized that discussions about her career or debuting in films were never something she considered bringing up with her family. She felt it wasn’t appropriate to make such a request and stuck to the belief that success comes through hard work and merit. 

Anjini expressed her admiration for Varun’s achievements, saying she feels blessed to have someone so inspiring in her family. However, she clarified that she doesn’t feel pressured to live up to his success, and has always been able to maintain her individuality without being overshadowed by her cousin’s stardom.

Interestingly, Anjini didn’t inform her family about her casting in Binny and Family until after she had signed the contract. She chose to keep the news to herself, as she didn’t want to be overwhelmed by advice or opinions from her family. “I knew this was the right project for me,” she said, explaining that the film’s story resonated deeply with her. Anjini preferred to make this decision on her own, though she acknowledged the influence of her family’s legacy.

Binny and Family is a heartwarming story that explores the relationship between three generations of a family and the communication barriers they face. The film features seasoned actors like Pankaj Kapur, Himani Shivpuri, Rajesh Kumar, and Charu Shankar, and Anjini admitted feeling nervous about acting alongside such veterans. 

Binny and Family, which is slated for release on September 20, 2024, will be Anjini Dhawan’s Bollywood debut.

Varun’s sister-in-law baked a cake

Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput has also shared a photo of the cake from this party. This cake has been baked by Varun’s sister-in-law Janvi Dhawan.

Varun-Natasha couple had announced in February this year that they were going to become parents. Both of them had shared a photo in which Varun was seen kissing his wife’s baby bump. The couple got married on 24 January 2021. Only close members of the couple attended this wedding held in Alibaug.

For their fourth reunion, David and Varun Dhawan will perform in an untitled comedy. Two female drivers will be traveling with the performers.
