In a recent interview, Tamannaah Bhatia candidly discussed the distinctions she perceives between South Indian cinema and Bollywood. As an actress who has excelled in both industries, Tamannaah offered her insights on what differentiates them, particularly in terms of storytelling.

The Stree 2 actress, who has made a significant mark in both Bollywood and South films, weighed in on the ongoing debate about which industry produces superior content. In her conversation on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Tamannaah elaborated on the contrasts she has noticed between the two industries over the years.

Tamannaah says that South Indian films’ deep ties to culture and traditional values are the main reason behind their greater success rate. She believes that the stories told in these films resonate across different cultures because they are grounded in universal, shared experiences. 

She explained, “What I’ve observed is that South films are often more connected to their geographical roots. Their content is gaining global traction because they focus on telling stories that are deeply rooted in a specific cultural context.”

Tamannaah went on to highlight that South filmmakers don’t usually aim to cater to various audience segments with one film. Instead, they focus on telling a single, well-defined story that they understand deeply. 

She further emphasized that interpersonal relationships and the emotions tied to them are central to South films. Tamannaah says that South Indian films’ deep ties to culture and traditional values are the main reason behind their greater success rate. These fundamental feelings are woven into diverse storytelling formats,” she remarked.

In contrast, Tamannaah pointed out that Bollywood tends to produce films designed for mass appeal, which can result in the content feeling less impactful. She observed that many Bollywood films aim to please everyone but often miss out on the depth that resonates with audiences.

On the professional front, Tamannaah has recently made special appearances in Stree 2 and Vedaa for dance sequences. Her next major role will be in Odela 2.

Stree 2 Collects Rs 18.75 Crore On Day 7 In India; A Global Blockbuster

The film has amassed over Rs 270 crore in just seven days, including earnings from paid premieres. It is poised to surpass the Rs 300 crore nett mark in India by its second Friday. Considering Stree 2 was produced on a modest budget of Rs 120 crore, including print and advertising, the producers are already in a highly profitable position, expecting to earn over Rs 300 crore in profits. This figure doesn’t even account for the added value and momentum the success has given to Maddock’s Horror-Comedy Universe, which will likely see higher box office returns for future releases.

Stree 2 Spurs Production of Multiple Sequels

The first milestone for Stree 2 will be to surpass Gadar 2 worldwide. Given their comparable budgets and the fact that they are both sequels to huge hits, the analogy makes sense.Sequels are proving to be a surefire way to draw audiences to theaters. About the unauthorized streaming of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 matches on the FairPlay application, a sister app of the Mahadev betting app, in violation of the broadcast rights of the Viacom 18 group, actress Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by Maharashtra Cyber Wing for questioning, according to news agency ANI.

The well-known actress from “Baahubali,” who has been called in for interrogation over allegations that she encouraged people to watch IPL matches on the Fairplay betting app, is expected to testify before the Cyber Cell on April 29.

It is also said that Sanjay Dutt’s name came up concerning the case. Earlier this week, he was summoned to appear for interrogation. He requested a new date because he was unable to attend owing to his schedule.

As to the news source, Viacom suffered a loss of crores of rupees due to the illicit streaming.

The Maharashtra cyber police had earlier questioned Bollywood musician and rapper Badshah as well as the managers of actors Sanjay Dutt and Jacqueline Fernandez for allegedly pushing the betting app and asking people to use it to watch cricket matches.

What is the situation?

The lawsuit stems from a 2023 FIR filed by the Viacom 18 group, alleging that some IPL 2023 matches were illegally streamed on Fairplay, with several performers endorsing and promoting the betting app.

VOOT, an OTT platform, and a number of television stations are owned by Viacom18. Its anti-piracy team discovered in October 2021 that seven apps—Pikashow, Foxi, Vedu, Smart Player Lite, Film Plus, Tea TV, and Wow TV—were being used to view illegal serials, reality series, and other content that was being broadcast on the Viacom 18 network.

A complaint was filed against these apps, alleging that they were displaying Viacom 18 content for financial gain without obtaining the necessary licenses, costing the firm more than ₹100 crore.
