In the Delhi MCD by-elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party won seven seats, the Aam Aadmi Party three, and the Congress one.

A total of 38.51% voter turnout was recorded in the 12 wards. The BJP previously held nine of the 12 seats for which by-elections were held, thus the party suffered a setback in this election.

Congress also won the Sangam Vihar-A seat. Of the 12 wards where voting took place on November 30, nine were previously held by the BJP, and the rest by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The voter turnout in this by-election was 38.51 percent, compared to 50.47 percent in the 2022 MCD elections for 250 wards. The seats where by-elections were held include Mundka, Shalimar Bagh-B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dwarka B, Dhichau Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar A, Dakshinpuri, Greater Kailash, and Vinod Nagar. A total of 51 candidates were in the fray, of which 26 were women and 25 were men.

Following the BJP’s landslide victory in the assembly elections earlier this year, this by-election is considered the first major test of Delhi’s political mood.
