Know what cross-examination happened in the Kolkata doctor case hearing
Sanjay Roy is guilty in the trainee doctor rape-murder case at RG Kar Medical College. The court sentenced him on Monday. During this, he told the judge that he was innocent and Kolkata Police forced him to sign the confession. The judge told Sanjay Roy that you are guilty… the charge of rape and murder against you has been proved.
A debate took place in Justice Anirban Das’s court on the doctor rape-murder at Kolkata RG Kar Medical College before Sanjay Roy’s punishment. In this, the defense lawyer opposed the CBI’s demand for hanging. Sanjay Roy’s lawyer said that he should be given some other punishment instead of hanging.
The judge asked Sanjay Roy a question
The judge asked, do you have anything to say about the possible punishment? The judge told Sanjay Roy that you can get life imprisonment under the rape section. Death penalty or life imprisonment can be given for murder and you can be given death penalty or imprisonment for 103.
What did the CBI say in court?
CBI’s lawyer once again demanded the death penalty. CBI said that the whole country was shaken by this incident. The punishment will bring confidence in the society. The culprit should be hanged. The confidence of the society has to be restored. The parents lost their daughter. The student was very important for the society.
Sanjay was brought out of jail at 10:15 am
Earlier, Sanjay Roy was brought to the court on Monday for sentencing amid tight security. Roy was brought out of jail at around 10:15 am and many police vehicles were present while bringing him to the court.
The area around the court turned into a cantonment
Around 500 policemen have been deployed in Sealdah court and the officials made every possible effort to avoid any untoward incident. However, despite the deployment of a large number of policemen, many people thronged the court premises and some people were seen trying to climb the railing to see the culprit.
What Mamata Banerjee said
Before leaving for North Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she would not comment on the case until the court gives its verdict. She said, ‘I had earlier requested the death penalty, but it depends on the judge and how the case is presented.’
