Obscene comments – YouTuber Allahabadia reprimanded by the Supreme Court: Said – there is filth in his mind; Told the Center – take action, otherwise we will not sit silent
The Supreme Court on Monday heard Ranveer Allahabadia’s appeal in the obscene comment case. The court gave relief to Allahabadia from arrest but also reprimanded him fiercely.
The court said that the language of your comment is perverted and the mind is dirty. Not only the parents but also the daughters and sisters were ashamed of this.
Justice Suryakant and Justice N Koteshwar Singh said that several FIRs have been registered against Allahabadia, but now no case will be registered against him in this matter.
Ranveer Allahabadia was accused of making obscene comments about parents in Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’. After this, FIRs were registered against him in many places including Maharashtra, and Assam. Ranveer had said 3 things in his petition to the Supreme Court. First – FIRs registered across the country should be heard in one place. Second – relief from arrest. The third thing was that they were being threatened.
The court asked the Center – you do something, otherwise we will
The bench told the Attorney Solicitor General to present in the court, “Cases of such YouTubers are coming to the fore, does the central government want to do something? If they do something on their own then it is a very good thing, otherwise, we cannot leave a gap here. So-called YouTube channels are misusing it and many things are coming to the fore, so we have issued a notice.
We are ordering the Attorney General and Solicitor General to be present in the court during the next hearing. We cannot ignore the importance and sensitivity of this matter.” Arguments and comments in the Supreme Court
The bench asked Allahabadia’s lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud –
What kind of language are you defending? I hate such statements. The question here is whether such a comment is a crime. If this isn’t obscenity, what is it?
Justice Suryakant said, “He has something very dirty in his mind, whatever he is spewing in the program, he is insulting the parents. Why should the court defend Allahabadia?”
Allahabadia’s lawyer Chandrachud said that the client is being threatened.
Justice Suryakant said- If you can try to get cheap publicity by doing such things, then there are others too, who will try to get cheap publicity by threatening you.
Justice Suryakant said-
The words you used have embarrassed the parents. Sisters and daughters will feel ashamed, and the whole of society will feel ashamed. This shows that the mind is perverted.
Chandrachud said that even when he went to the police station, the crowd pushed and shoved him. Justice Suryakant said that why is the lawyer going to the police station. Under which law did you go to the police station? Just because you can give them money and you will start providing these services too. You are also insulting your uniform.
During the hearing, the court said that the court is also aware of the Australian show from which the obscene comment has been copied. It also said that there are many shows related to such adult content, but full caution is taken in them. On this, Ranveer Allahabadia’s lawyer said that this episode was also subscription-based. But the controversy happened when a subscriber took out a 10-second clip from the paid 45-minute video and posted it on YouTube.
Ranveer had filed a petition in SC on February 14
Many FIRs were registered across the country regarding Ranveer Allahabadia’s obscene comment. Against this, the YouTuber filed a petition in the Supreme Court on February 14. Then the court had said that his petition would be heard in a day or two.
On behalf of Allahabadia, lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud had sought an early hearing on his client’s petition, as Assam Police had sent him a summons on Friday.
