Raksha Bandhan: Limited Time to Tie Rakhi in Himachal and Haryana Due to Auspicious Window
In Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, the Raksha Bandhan celebrations come with a unique challenge this year, as the traditional Rakhi rituals must be completed within a restricted two-hour window in the afternoon. Here’s why:
Raksha Bandhan, the cherished festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, is being observed across India today. Traditionally held on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravan, the festival involves sisters tying a Rakhi on their brothers’ wrists as a symbol of love and protection.
While the festive spirit is high, with markets bustling with Rakhis and sweets, the observance of Rakhi in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh is affected by the presence of Bhadra, an inauspicious time according to Hindu beliefs. Due to Bhadra’s influence, siblings in these states must perform the Rakhi rituals within a narrow time frame of just two hours in the afternoon.
According to Drik Panchang, the full moon of Shravan began on August 19 at 3:04 am, marking the start of Raksha Bandhan celebrations. The full moon period will continue until 11:55 pm tonight. However, Bhadra, which began earlier today, has imposed restrictions on the timing of auspicious activities. It’s widely believed that no favorable activities should be undertaken during Bhadra Kaal. Consequently, the ideal time for tying the Rakhi in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh starts at 1:46 pm and ends at 4:19 pm, giving siblings a narrow two-hour window to complete the ritual.
