Raashi Khanna, Jeeva, and Edward Sonnenblick Unveil 'Agathiya' – A Pan-India Horror Action Thriller with a Cultural Twist

There is chit-chat on the sets in the Hindi industry: The star cast of the film ‘Agathiya’ told the difference between South and North industry, Jeeva said – surprised to see the method of Bollywood

The film ‘Agathiya’ is going to be released pan India on 28 February. Apart from Tamil, this film will also be released in Hindi and Telugu. The director of this film starring Raashi Khanna, Jeeva, Arjun Sarja, and Edward Sonnenblick is Pa Vijay. This is a period horror action comedy film. In this film, along with angels and devils, medical methods like Ayurveda Siddha have been talked about.

Rashi’s film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ released last year was in a lot of headlines. At the same time, Jeeva was seen in Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer film ’83’. Edward is an American actor and has worked in films like ‘RRR’, ‘Kesari’, ‘And Manikarnika’.

The film’s star cast Raashi, Jeeva, and Edward have talked to Dainik Bhaskar. Read the highlights of the conversation…

Question- Jeeva, first of all, tell us the story of how you became Jeeva from Amar Choudhary.

Answer- My father is from Rajasthan and my mother is from Madurai. My real name is Amar Choudhary. When I came into the industry, another actor had entered at that time. His name was also Amar. When he announced his name, I changed my name to Jeeva.

Question- Raashi, you are continuously doing good films. Your choice of scripts is very different. How different is this character from the roles you have played so far?

Answer- I like the horror genre very much. I don’t get scared easily. For me, horror means something that scares me. I signed this film because horror is fantasy and also a thriller. I don’t think we have explored such things much. The work of computer-generated imagery (CGI) in this film went on for a year. Those who have done computer-generated imagery for Marvel-DC have worked in this film. You will see that in the climax. The climax is the USP point of our film. There are many elements due to which I have signed the film. Every character in this film is important. There is a little bit of comedy in the film. There is also emotion and many layers. I had never seen such a film, so there was an exciting factor for me. I thought that since I have done different genres, let me try this too. I enjoyed it a lot.

Question- Jeeva, what is ‘Agathiya’ for you?

Answer- ‘Agathiya’ is an important film for me. This film has everything – action, thriller, horror. There are also good co-actors. As you said, the film may be in any language but the audience connects with the emotion. So that emotion will be seen in this film. And I think that the pan-India audience will be able to connect with this film. This is a kind of family film. Even children can watch it. There are technicians from Marvel in the film. Graphic technicians from Iran have worked on it. We had worked keeping the South Indian audience in mind but after seeing the final product, we made it Pan India.

Question- Edward, you are everywhere in the poster and the film.

Answer- I enjoyed working on this film. A lot of Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) work will be seen in this film. I could not even imagine myself in this avatar until this poster was made. I have worked a lot as a villain. I have played a villain in this film too. But this role of mine is a little different because I have played a French villain. My character and his intentions are very evil. I have tried to make it more scary.

Question- What was the challenge in the film or on the set?

Answer/Rashi- See, I did not feel any challenge. I have done a Tamil film before. I do not feel like an outsider. When I do a Tamil film, I feel as if I am from here. When I do Telugu or Hindi, I come from there. The challenge for me was to be afraid. As I told you, I cannot be scared easily. And when something is not happening in reality, you have to imagine. Then it becomes a little difficult.

Question- Nowadays, more historical and cultural films are being made in the industry. People are also liking them. What do you guys have to say?

Answer/Jeeva- Yes, nowadays the impact of Western culture is being seen everywhere or on social media. But when the story is related to our culture or roots, then there is an emotion connected to it. The shooting of this film started after COVID-19. Many people returned to Ayurveda, and homeopathy during Covid. There is a little influence of that in the film. There is a lot about health in this film as well.

Answer/Rashi- I would say that cinema is a mirror of our society and culture. As social media came, people started moving away from their culture. Earlier we used to read books too. We used to read songs and Puranas but nowadays people do not read so much. People are watching more visual media. People listen to podcasts and watch movies to stay connected to their culture. In such a situation, when such films are made, people can connect more. And we are also happy that our film is giving a message to society.
