Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and party MP Rahul Gandhi also paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi at Veer Bhumi in Delhi this morning.
Other Congress figures like P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot joined in paying their respects to the former Prime Minister in the nation’s capital.
In 1984, Rajiv Gandhi became the Congress’s leader following the murder of his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At 40, he took office as India’s youngest prime minister in October 1984.
Up until December 2, 1989, he was the prime minister. Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was killed on May 21, 1991, during an electoral rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, by a suicide bomber affiliated with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
