
The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has started on a grand note, with every team having won their first group stage match. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Punjab Kings have had a good beginning, while last year’s winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians are yet to get on the board.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Set the Stage on Fire
Sunrisers Hyderabad have also started IPL 2025 with a blazing innings, scoring an all-time high in their opening match. Sunrisers managed to score 286 runs against Rajasthan Royals, the second-highest score in IPL history. Their runaway show has propelled them to the pinnacle of the points table due to a tremendous net run rate.
RCB Shock Defending Champions KKR
RCB made a statement by winning the first match of IPL 2025 against KKR on their home turf. KKR batted first and scored a total of 174/8, thanks to a century stand between Ajinkya Rahane and Sunil Narine. RCB completed the majestic chase easily, trailing 177/3 in 16.2 overs, winning by a seven-wicket margin. They are in second place with a better net run rate.
Punjab Kings Win Led by Shreyas Iyer
Punjab Kings, led by the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, won a gripping match against Gujarat Titans. Punjabi batted first after they lost the toss and scored an enormous 243/5 courtesy of an unrestrained 81-run stand by Iyer and Shashank Singh. Chasing, Gujarat fought hard but could not muster enough, achieving only 232/5. Punjab’s outstanding beginning puts them at number three in the tables.
CSK Outclass Mumbai Indians in El Clasico
The first high-profile clash of the season between five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the most successful IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, saw CSK emerge victorious. Mumbai’s batting lineup struggled, while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra ensured an easy chase for CSK after a brilliant bowling display by Noor Ahmed. Despite Mumbai’s loss, young bowler Vignesh Puthur made a strong impression. CSK now holds the fourth position in the table.
Ashutosh Sharma’s heroics secure victory for Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals registered a dramatic one-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants, courtesy of a match-winning innings by Ashutosh Sharma. Lucknow, after being asked to bat, registered a tough 209/8, with Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh contributing explosive fifties. Delhi, however, capitalized on Ashutosh’s power-packed innings as a replacement player to reach the target in 19.3 overs at 211/9. Delhi thus clinched the fifth position in the points table with this victory.
