Emma is crowned Best Actress.

Emma was surprised when Michelle Yeoh announced her as the winner of Best Actress. She hugged director Yorgos Lanthimos and actor Mark Ruffalo, repeatedly touching the back of her garment. As she ascended the steps to receive the award, she also seemed to mention something about her dress breaking. Emma was saved momentarily by Jessica Lange and Charlize Theron as well, as Emma stood up to give her speech while distraught.

What Emma stated during her speech

“I’m pretty sure it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken,'” the woman claimed, alluding to Ryan Gosling’s recent live performance. “My dress is broken,” she continued. “The other night, as you can kind of see happens a lot, I was panicking that maybe something like this could happen,” she continued. I was told to “please take yourself out of it” by Yorgos [Lanthimos, director of Poor Things], and he was right—it’s not about me. It’s the story of a group that united to create something more powerful than the sum of its members. And that’s what makes creating movies so great—all of us working together.

And it gives me great pleasure to share this with every member of the cast, crew, and everyone else who contributed their love, care, and genius to the creation of this movie.

“I just want to thank my family, my mom, my brother, Spencer, my dad, and my husband, Dave,” she added as she wrapped up her speech. I adore you a great deal. Above all, our daughter, who will turn three in three days, is the most important person in our lives. My dear, I love you more than the skies can ever know. Thus, I sincerely appreciate it. Keep your eyes off the back of my dress. I’m grateful.

In the category, Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon, Annette Bening for Nyad, Sandra Huller for Anatomy of a Fall, and Carey Mulligan for Maestro were the formidable opponents that Emma defeated. For La La Land, she had previously won an Oscar in the same category.
