Kangana Ranaut’s ambitious cinematic endeavor, Emergency, which weaves a complex tapestry of the turbulent 21-month Emergency era in India (1975-1977), has seen its box office graph plummet severely. While much acclaimed for its gripping portrayal and impressive performances, the film’s economic returns have not kept pace with its gains in the critical field since its January 17 release.
Day 4 Box Office Report
According to the early box office estimates made available by Sacnilk.com, Emergency has reportedly managed to take a decent amount of ₹0.44 crore on its fourth day in the country. And the political drama has seen its growth from an opening day to ₹2.5 crore followed by ₹3.6 crore on Day 2 and an all-time high of ₹4.35 crore on the third day as well. Its performance is witnessing a steep slump on the current day.
Manikarnika Films, a production house that Ranaut represents, had earlier informed that the movie had collected ₹3.11 crore on opening day, collected ₹4.28 crore on the second day, and two days total would be ₹7.39 crore. However, those figures declined significantly on subsequent days, which doesn’t look that great for commercial success from the film side.
About The Film
Emergency takes the audience to the politically turbulent times of the administration of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and Kangana Ranaut plays the role of the legendary leader. The film’s cast includes such great actors as Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik. Under the banners of Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the movie encountered several controversies, censorship issues, and public protests before hitting the screens.
Receptors and Reviews to the Audience
Though the statistics at the box office are haunting, Emergency earned appreciation from critics and audiences worldwide for its affecting storyline and extraordinary performances. Social media has been abuzz with netizens hailing Ranaut’s performance, with comments such as “Kangana is Indira” drawing comparisons to the iconic phrase, “India is Indira. Indira is India.” One viewer exclaimed, “Kangana Ranaut has done it again! As both director and actor, she has delivered a masterpiece that exudes honesty and integrity. This film deserves every ounce of applause!
Although Emergency has yet to get a steady financial grip, it’s not debatable how it remains a political drama that has been thought-provoking. Whether the movie can regain its footing in the coming days would be a result of the interest in it and positive word of mouth from the viewers. It remains proof of Ranaut’s undying vision and dedication to bringing the historical stories on screen.
