In its submission, the ED said the Jharkhand High Court was “wrong” in saying there was no prima facie case against Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) moved the Supreme Court on Monday challenging Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s bail.
It said the Jharkhand High Court’s order granting bail to Soren was illegal.
In its plea, the ED said the Supreme Court erred in saying there was no prima facie case against the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader.
Notably, Soren left the Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi on June 28 after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a money laundering case related to the land scam.
After his release, former Jharkhand Chief Minister and JMM leader Champai Soren resigned. Hemant Soren then conducted a vote of confidence in the assembly and became the chief minister again after winning the vote of confidence.
He was arrested on January 31 from Raj Bhavan in Ranchi after the resignation of the Prime Minister.
Notably, with the land scam earlier this year, the ED has detained around 25 persons, including Soren, an IAS officer, former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan, Bhanu Pratap Prasad, and others.
At the time of his arrest, Soren denied the allegations against him, saying that the BJP-led central government had initiated money laundering against him as part of a political vendetta.
