Cristiano Ronaldo Surpasses Lionel Messi, Breaks Records with 10 Million YouTube Subscribers in a Single Day
Cristiano Ronaldo, the global football sensation, is now making significant strides in the realm of social media. Having already amassed a massive following on platforms like Instagram, X, and Facebook, Ronaldo, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, has made a remarkable entry into the video-sharing world of YouTube, setting multiple records along the way.
On Wednesday, Ronaldo launched his YouTube channel, named ‘UR,’ inviting his fans to hit the subscribe button. And his supporters responded enthusiastically, shattering records in the process.
Within just 90 minutes of its launch, the channel had already garnered 1 million subscribers, making it the fastest in YouTube’s history to achieve this milestone. As of the time this article was written, Ronaldo’s channel boasts 11.2 million subscribers and the number continues to grow.
Interestingly, Ronaldo’s rival and fellow football legend, Lionel Messi, also has a YouTube channel, which has attracted 2.27 million subscribers despite being launched way back in 2006.
Ronaldo has revealed that his channel will not only focus on stories from his illustrious football career but will also offer fans a glimpse into his personal life, covering aspects like “business, education, preparation, recuperation, family, wellness, and nutrition.”
I’ve always valued the close relationships I have with my fans on social media, and my YouTube account will provide me even more opportunity to interact with them. They’ll get to know more about me, my family, and my perspectives on various topics,” Ronaldo stated.
Ronaldo is currently in the final phase of his illustrious football career, which has seen him play for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. He is now playing for the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
The 39-year-old is the five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, which is granted to the world’s best football player each year.
With over 900 million followers across Instagram (636 million), Facebook (170 million), and X (112.5 million), Ronaldo’s social media presence is unparalleled.
Ronaldo first gained worldwide fame during his time with Manchester United and made an emotional return to the club in 2021. However, his second stint ended on a sour note after a fallout with manager Erik ten Hag.
Louis Saha, a former Manchester United teammate of Ronaldo, believes there’s a possibility that Ronaldo could return to Old Trafford one day, perhaps as a coach or even a manager. “Cristiano Ronaldo has the passion and commitment to come back to Manchester United, whether as a coach or in another role. His second spell didn’t go as everyone had hoped, and it’s clear why he was frustrated – he didn’t see the same drive and passion from younger players that he had grown accustomed to,” Saha shared with TVSporten.
