Complete list of IPL winners and runners-up: Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ousted Pat Cummins with an eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad to lift their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Sunday. KKR previously won the IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 and dominated that season, ending the league stage with a best of nine wins from 14 games.
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are both sides that have won the IPL title five times. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals won one each.
“It was comprehensive,” said Kolkata captain Shreyas Iyer, who also played for Delhi Capitals in the 2020 IPL final when his team lost to Mumbai Indians.
“That’s what we asked the players and they stepped up. It’s hard to express emotion, to like so much right now. Nobody got us here, it’s been a cumulative effort, it’s been a flawless season for us.
Pat Kuminos won the toss and were picked out, but Sunrisers fell flat in the first seven innings as they limped to 47-4 against an impeccable attack from Starc, Harshit Rana (2-24) and Vaibhav Arora (1-24). Russell swept the lower order with 3-19 and Hyderabad were in danger of falling short of 100 before Cummins hit 24 from 19 balls to be the last man to be dropped in the penultimate over.
“Russell has the magic wand and looks to me to bowl,” said Shreyas Iyer. “Most games he gave us a hit.”
Starc wins the battle against Cummins
He dominated even Hyderabad’s most aggressive batting line-up, winning both the league stage and the qualifiers, where Australian paceman Starc excelled before Pat Cummins led the side for one match. . semi-final
Starc and Cummins will join the Australian squad for the World Twenty20, which begins with the USA against Canada in Dallas on Saturday.
