Cody Rhodes Claims The Rock’s Initial WrestleMania 40 Plans Would Have Upset WWE Fans Even More
Cody Rhodes, the current WWE Champion, recently hinted that if fans knew about The Rock’s original plans for WrestleMania 40, they would have been even more outraged. The revelation came during a conversation with Inside The Ropes.
Rhodes, also known as The American Nightmare, discussed how he had been contemplating the potential plan involving The Rock for WrestleMania 40.”People would be even more irate if they knew the true plan for me.” I am unable to disclose to you the actual strategy—the Rock plan, whatever it may be. I was going to be thinking about how we might make that work. How do we make it happen? I was surrounded by a pretty good bunch of people, Rhodes said to Inside The Ropes.
During this period, Rhodes confided in his friend, Diamond Dallas Page (DDP), who reassured him that whatever unfolded at WrestleMania 40 would ultimately be the best outcome. Rhodes admitted that DDP’s advice drove him a bit crazy, as he wrestled with his thoughts on how to make everything come together.
Despite his concerns, Rhodes acknowledged that he had to be patient and let things unfold naturally, understanding that fan approval was crucial. “After witnessing the fire spread and having the opportunity to remain silent, I came to the realization that perhaps I had every right to feel self-assured. Perhaps I had every reason to be unconcerned,” thought Cody.

Although WWE fans are still in the dark about The Rock’s potential plans, some hints have been dropped by The Rock’s business partner, Brian Gewirtz. Gewirtz mentioned his opposition to Cody winning the 2024 Royal Rumble, as this would allow Rhodes to challenge for the main event at WrestleMania 40, thus threatening The Rock’s chances of facing Roman Reigns.
Gewirtz revealed that he and The Rock had meetings with Triple H and WWE President Nick Khan in a hotel to strategize WrestleMania 40. Rhodes claims that in the end, Triple H was the one who pushed that Cody prevail in the Royal Rumble 2024. This decision forced WWE fans to rally against The Rock when he tried to take Cody’s place at the marquee event.
This backlash led to a change of plans. Realizing that the WWE Universe would reject the original plan, The Rock suggested that Triple H turn heel for the first time since 2003 and team up with Roman Reigns, effectively giving Cody his spot at WrestleMania 40. As they say, the rest is history.
Currently, Cody Rhodes remains the WWE Champion, having held the title for four months since his victory. There is speculation that The American Nightmare might face The Rock at WrestleMania 41 if The People’s Champ decides to make his comeback.
