In a recent interview, director Anubhav Sinha talked about the making of his and Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Ra.One’ and the reason for its failure. Anubhav believes that ‘Ra.One’ was a bad film and hence the film did not work. The script and editing of the film were also bad.
I kept getting calls for eight hours continuously
In an interview with Lallantop, Anubhav says- ‘I had imagined this film in 2005 itself. And in the year 2006, I started writing it. Of course, I was talking to Shahrukh about the film but nothing was decided. Shahrukh announced this project at the press conference in Berlin and boarded the flight to India. I kept getting calls from people for eight hours continuously. To tell the truth, I did not know that Shahrukh had said something like this and I did not know what to reply. When I spoke to him after eight hours, Shahrukh said that we are doing the film, what is there to hide in it?’
A large section of the industry wanted to see Shahrukh fall
Talking about ‘Ra.One’, the director said that at that time many people in the industry wanted the film to fail. Anubhav says- ‘I believe that a large section of the film industry wanted to see Shahrukh fall. I have been in this industry for a long time and I know people very well. When Shahrukh accepted that the film flopped, it was heartbreaking for me. I betrayed the film. His trust in me also broke. I could not give Shahrukh a film that he would be proud of.’
Shahrukh Khan is an amazing character
Anubhav says in the interview that the film was not made the way he had thought. But he never had to think about the budget because Shahrukh never discussed money. He is something far above money. He is an amazing character. Shahrukh did not care about it at all. Whatever I heard about the film’s budget was from outside sources. Some say 90 crores, some say 120 crores. I had lost control over the film. Neither Shah Rukh nor I had ever made such a film. We were dependent on the opinions of many people.
