Ranveer Singh’s film, ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge,’ has raked in a gross collection of ₹52.71 crore on Wednesday through its paid previews.
Starting Wednesday evening, the film created a sensation in theaters, breaking the record for the highest first-day earnings previously held by the original ‘Dhurandhar.’
In doing so, the film also demolished the first-day earnings record of this year’s major release, ‘Border 2.’
Ranveer Singh’s film, ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge,’ has finally hit theaters and has created a massive buzz right from its premiere day. Ahead of its official release on Thursday, March 19, paid preview shows for the film were held starting at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18. Bolstered by bumper advance bookings, this spy-action sequel has achieved record-breaking earnings. Directed by Aditya Dhar, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ garnered a gross collection of ₹52.71 crore on its opening day. It broke the record held by Pawan Kalyan’s film, ‘They Call Him OG,’ which previously held the distinction of having the highest gross earnings—over ₹25 crore—on its premiere day. As a reminder, the original ‘Dhurandhar,’ released last December, had opened with earnings of ₹28 crore on its first day (a Friday). Now, on Thursday, March 19—its official opening day—’Dhurandhar 2′ is poised for yet another massive opening.
However, thousands of viewers who arrived to watch ‘Dhurandhar 2’ on Wednesday evening also faced certain difficulties. Due to technical glitches, while many shows across North India—including Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune—started with a delay of 45 minutes to an hour, shows of the dubbed versions in South India had to be cancelled entirely. In these regions, the filmmakers were even compelled to issue refunds, resulting in financial losses.
‘Dhurandhar 2’ Box Office: Substantial Earnings from Paid Previews
Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’ is being hailed as a milestone for Indian cinema, and Bollywood in particular. According to a report by Sacnilk, the film garnered a net collection of approximately ₹44 crore from 12,292 premiere shows held across the country, while the gross collection stands at ₹52.71 crore.
The Story of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ and Hamza’s Revenge
The narrative of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ centers on Ranveer Singh’s character: Jaskeerat Singh Rangi, alias Hamza Ali Mazari. The sequel opens with a flashback sequence depicting Jaskeerat’s early life in the Punjab region of India. We witness how he first caught the attention of IB Chief Ajay Sanyal, and the specific circumstances and events that transformed Jaskeerat into Hamza. Subsequently, the film picks up exactly where ‘Dhurandhar Part 1’ left off. Having eliminated the bandit Rahman, Hamza now sets his sights on seizing power in Lyari, Pakistan. His targets include every adversary who has inflicted pain upon India—be it ISI Major Iqbal, the counterfeit currency kingpins (the Khanani Brothers), SP Aslam, or the “Big Boss” himself, Dawood Ibrahim. ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ Premieres See Bumper Advance Bookings
‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ garnered a gross collection of ₹47.91 crore solely through advance bookings for a total of 12,422 premiere shows across all five languages. Of this total, the Hindi version accounted for the highest pre-booking revenue, bringing in ₹40.42 crore. The film secured advance bookings of ₹1.27 crore from the Telugu version, ₹80 lakh from Tamil, ₹8.98 lakh from Kannada, and ₹8.68 lakh from the Malayalam version. These advance bookings commenced on Saturday, March 7, coinciding with the release of the film’s trailer.
‘Dhurandhar 2’ Opening Day Advance Bookings: 1.4 Million Tickets Sold
Starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ is now officially set to release on March 19. For the opening day, 1,407,553 tickets have been sold across 23,364 shows, generating a gross advance booking revenue of ₹52.35 crore. When including blocked seats, this figure rises to ₹62.43 crore. Naturally, on-site bookings will also take place on Thursday; consequently, the total earnings figure is expected to rise further.
Surpassing ‘Border 2’ Solely Through Premiere Earnings
As of 2025, Sunny Deol’s ‘Border 2’ stands as Bollywood’s biggest film to date. This war drama had recorded a net collection of ₹30.00 crore on its opening day across the country. However, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has already surpassed this earnings figure solely through its premiere shows. Trade analysts are predicting that ‘Dhurandhar 2’ will script a new chapter in the history of Hindi cinema at the box office. The lull that has gripped movie theaters over the past month and a half has finally come to an end, especially given that there are no major releases scheduled for the next month or so. Last year, ‘Dhurandhar Part 1’ generated a gross business of ₹1,005 crore across the country, despite being released exclusively in Hindi. Now, estimates suggest that this sequel could potentially earn two to three times that amount.
Several Non-Hindi Premiere Shows Screened in Hindi with English Subtitles
It is worth noting here that the collections on the premiere day could have been even higher; however, the film suffered a setback due to the cancellation of non-Hindi shows in theaters across South India. Specifically, the paid premiere shows for this action thriller—titled ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’—were completely halted in South Indian languages on Wednesday evening. Following reports from Tamil Nadu and the Telugu-speaking states, it was confirmed that technical glitches had also affected the Kannada and Malayalam dubbed versions of the film. Consequently, the scheduled preview screenings in all regional languages—originally slated for March 18—were cancelled.
The situation became particularly tense in the Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh; major multiplexes in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada officially cancelled their Telugu-language premiere shows. Reports indicate that some theaters attempted to wait until 6:00 PM in the hope that the necessary screening material would become available.
