Film Review: De De Pyaar De 2: Light-Hearted Family Comedy With Fun Ajay–Madhavan Clash
After a long gap, Bollywood finally brings a romantic comedy that is not flawless but keeps you thoroughly entertained. De De Pyaar De 2 is a warm family drama that cleverly pokes fun at modern relationships, age gaps, and what happens when “progressive” families face their own double standards. The film falters in bits and pieces but manages to retain sufficient charm to keep you hooked.
Overview of the Story
The movie picks up where the first part left off. Ayesha is all set to introduce Ashish to her family. But there is a twist here, for her “modern and broad-minded” family is sent into a tizzy the very moment they discover the two are several years apart in age. The results are comic and dramatic as they struggle to handle it.
It is a first half fully loaded with laughs, fun banter, and high-energy performances. Ayesha’s parents’ altering attitudes, Meezaan’s entry, and the face-off between Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan provide great momentum for the narrative.
But the second half is slow-paced. A few scenes tend to be dragged, making the drama unnecessarily heavy. Just when the film can get seriously drained, a twist in the last 20–30 minutes revives the energy and keeps the audience glued to their seats.
Performances
Ajay Devgn is effortlessly charming in an understated way and shines both in comic and emotional moments.
R. Madhavan emerges as the film’s strongest performance, matched by anger, humour, and sensitivity with ease.
Rakul Preet Singh plays delightfully in the lighter scenes, while her emotional moments seem a bit too dramatic at times.
Javed Jaffrey brings consistent laughs with his superb comedic timing.
Meezaan surprises with his confidence, screen presence, and impressive dancing skills.
Gautami Kapoor and Ishita Dutta infuse warmth and simplicity into their characters.
Direction & Technical Aspects
Director Anshul Sharma keeps the tone light and colorful for the entire film. The first half is taut and engrossing, but the second half drags in places. A few emotional scenes click; the others appear contrived. The film shows up well the hypocrisy of families who seem progressive but aren’t one bit progressive.
Music
While “Teen Shauk” and “Jhoom Barabar” look great on screen and have already found popularity, this sequel misses, unlike the first film, a strong, memorable romantic track that lingers long after the movie ends.
Should You Watch It? If you like family comedies, some relationship drama, and a fun rivalry between Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan, De De Pyaar De 2 is a good weekend watch. Yes, the film has its flaws, but it is entertaining, easy to watch, and does exactly what a light-hearted rom-com should. Not too heavy, not too silly… just the right amount of fun.
