Actresses Nushrratt Bharuccha and Soha Ali Khan are back in the spotlight with Chhorii 2, the much-awaited sequel to the hit horror drama Chhorii. Set to premiere on OTT on April 11, the film promises more scares, more emotion, and a deeper dive into the eerie world introduced in the first part. We caught up with director Vishal Furia to chat about what’s new, what’s evolved, and why this story still needs to be told.
Bringing Women-Centric Stories to the Forefront
With Chhorii 2, Nushrratt reprises her role as the lead, and this time,e Soha Ali Khan joins her in a significant role. Vishal shared, “It made complete sense to bring Nushrratt back—this is her story, and we’re taking it forward. Soha joins the cast as a domestic help, a character we specifically created for this film. And on a parallel note, I’m also directing Maa with Kajol. That story came to me through Ajay Devgn, and being chosen to direct a film with such a strong concept is something I’m incredibly grateful for.”
Nushrratt: Going All In
According to the director, Nushrratt went above and beyond this time. “She had to put in four to five times more effort for Chhorii 2 than she did for the first one. Horror was new to her back then, so it took her some time to get used to it. This time, though, she came in mentally prepared, knowing this world comes with its challenges. There’s no comfort zone here. Her performance in this film is intense and powerful—audiences will feel that.”
Soha Ali Khan Steps into New Territory
Soha’s role is a departure from her usual choices, and even she was hesitant at first. “Her character is original and rural. We had to make sure she looked and spoke like she belonged in that setting. She wasn’t sure initially, but after reading the script, going through the narration, and trying on the costume, she was fully on board. Her role includes three distinct prosthetic looks—each one more demanding than the last—and she’s nailed them all. It’s one of her most challenging performances, and she’s done an incredible job.”
A Bigger World, A Tighter Space
While the scale of Chhorii 2 is much larger than the original, the shooting conditions were far more challenging. “We wanted to create a vast yet claustrophobic world,” Vishal explained. “The sets were extremely tight—narrow corridors, dark tunnels, closed spaces. Shooting in those conditions was tough, both technically and physically, but it gave the film its unique edge. We’ve managed to build something impactful even with a compact budget.”
Scares with Substance
Like its predecessor, Chhorii 2 blends horror with a hard-hitting social message. The first film tackled the dark reality of female foeticide. While the sequel carries a new message, the director keeps it under wraps. “We want audiences to feel entertained and unnerved—and then walk away realizing a deeper message underneath it all. If we reveal it now, it loses its impact. That’s what made Chhorii resonate, and that’s what we aim to do again.”
