Furiosa A Mad Max Saga Review: Fun, Exciting, But Not Fury Road.Directed by George Miller, Furiosa: Mad Max Saga is an adrenaline-pumping thriller. But the film is not according to “Furious Road”, says our review.
Furiosa, Director George Miller first created Fury Road in 1987, and it’s almost surreal that the franchise still gives you an adrenaline rush. Miller returned as director and screenwriter of Furiosa eight years after the amazing Fury Road. The new film focuses on showing Furiosa’s journey (Charlize Theron gave a strong performance in the 2015 film).
Furiosa [Anya Taylor-Joy] was robbed of her life in the green place of many mothers when she was young. He is held captive by a group of bikers led by warlord Dementus [Chris Hemsworth], but becomes a giant and fearsome warrior in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. But her memories of Green Place and the young Furiosa [Alyla Browne] shaped her into the Furiosa of “Fury Road”, which makes a sharp impression upon meeting her for the first time.
In this prequel, Furiosa recounts her struggle to return home while Dementus battles Immortan Joe [Tom Burke] and his fortress, which still has plenty of food and water.
Although this is supposed to be Furiosa’s story, we mostly see it through the prism of Dementus. Young Furiosa hardly speaks, but is quite a quick learner, adapting to challenges and finding a way to survive among her captors. Often Miller treats Furiosa almost as a secondary character to the others.
Furiosa, who we met in 2015, has little to do here except step up and take charge when the strong men around her aren’t getting the job done. Taylor-Joy no doubt directs these scenes with ease, but it’s also just a stark reminder of just how much of an impact her character made in Fury Road, commanding, acting and taking over the desert landscape. love
Demented, Chris is hilarious and cute with his cartoon prosthetic noses. He follows Miller’s vision at his best and together with Taylor-Joy they give a solid performance. Chris’s Dementus is ruthless, but also childish.
While the story can sometimes feel like a mess due to the many flashbacks, the action sequences really get you going. No one does it better than Miller to make us shift our seats and maybe lean in a little for the action sequences, especially the well-crafted chases. Edited by Margaret Sixel and Eliot Knapman, the action scenes, chase sequences, general sound effects and guitar riffs make this experience worth every penny.
Miller promises you some heart-pounding action that makes up for the lack of heart in this prequel compared to his previous offering.
“Furiosa” is fun and catchy at its best, but don’t expect “Fury Road” because it misses a bit.
