The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner. Teams are finishing off their final preparations for this great event. The excitement is immense, but let’s dwell for a while on three Indian-origin players who may end up giving India a good run-around during the tournament.
The Indian team, under the flag of captain Rohit Sharma, will begin its World Cup adventure against Ireland on June 5. In a first for history, India will also play one of the co-hosts – the United States – in the group stage, but this time on June 12. Interestingly the US team boasts of some players of Indian origin, who could well give a mighty challenge to Team India. Let’s take a closer look at them.
1.Milind Kumar
Milind Kumar hails from the Indian capital, New Delhi, and might just prove to be the next troublemaker for India. The 33-year-old cricketer has already donned the shirts of IPL franchises Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals. Milind has scored 2,988 runs in 46 first-class games and as many as 1,000 runs across his T20 career. With such a record, the Indian bowlers will surely face a challenge before him on the field.
2.Harmeet Singh
Harmeet Singh hails from Mumbai and has represented India in Under-19 World Cup-winning sides. In 2012, Harmeet was a part of the Indian side that had won the trophy under the captaincy of Unmukt Chand. Harmeet now plays for the USA in the T20 World Cup. His bowling has always been formidable, taking 87 wickets in first-class cricket while having a very good economy rate as well. He has also taken 7 wickets in as short as 5 Under-19 World Cup matches, which makes him a player to watch out for.
3. Monank Patel
USA’s leader, Monank Patel, is from Gujarat and played for the US since 2019. He has aggregated 1,446 ODI runs and 387 runs in T20s in 47 ODIs and 23 T20s, respectively. Monank would not want to go easy on the country of birth and his leadership and batting will make a difference.
These Indian-origin players would play an important role for the USA in the T20 World Cup, and Team India must prepare to face their abilities on the field.
